Cody Bowhunter Says He Did Nothing Wrong By Leaving Elk Partly Devoured By Grizzly
Cody bowhunter Ron Niziolek says he followed hunting rules when he left an elk carcass after discovering it had been partly eaten by a grizzly. He said returning to the carcass and attempting to recover potentially contaminated meat would have put him at unnecessary risk.
Niziolek was charged with misdemeanor offenses related to wasting a game animal, but a Park County jury found him not guilty last month. He now hopes the case will lead to changes in how hunters are expected to handle animals killed or partially eaten by bears.
