The search is continuing for 11 people still missing after a boat capsized off Mexico’s Baja California coast, as US authorities said several of those rescued were treated for injuries consistent with shark bites.
“Several of the individuals rescued were suffering from severe injuries consistent with shark bites, and the Coast Guard provided life-saving first aid while en route [to] San Diego,” the US Coast Guard said in a statement on Saturday.
Sixteen Mexican nationals were rescued on Friday after the vessel went down about 225km west of Ensenada. Survivors told officials there had been 27 people on board.
