Audi’s CEO just learned the hard way that company rules exist for a reason. Gernot Döllner appeared alongside President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Georgia on Saturday to announce a $4 billion factory – and Germany is furious.
“This is a disgrace,” said Isabel Cademartori, a Social Democratic Party lawmaker and the party’s transport policy spokesperson.
She didn’t stop there.
“Actively campaigning for an autocrat who is waging a trade war against Germany marks a new low for the VW Group.”
She also pointed to the company’s history – Volkswagen was founded in 1937 by the Nazi Party’s German Labor Front.
“Especially considering the history of the VW Group,” she added.
Cademartori accused Audi of “validating Trump’s strategy” of “using a trade war to shift jobs from Europe to the United States.”
